A friend of will's, Tripp Owen, had to give a speech at school this week...

The Fight of Her Life

I stand here today to talk about Kelly Stewart and how she is fighting through pancreatic cancer.  Not many people get this, but when they do they have a horrific process.  Mrs. Stewart on the other hand is doing great and going through the work involved just fine.

Her son is Will Stewart and he is a seventh grader here at Wester Middle School.  I have been friends with Will since I was five.  We met in baseball and our friendship has continued on throughout our lives.

When I heard about Will's mom I was devastated.  Mrs. Kelly is a great mom and she doesn't deserve this cancer.  But sadly she and her family have to persevere through this heartbreaking experience.

Considering the hard time Kelly is going through she seems to be doing fantastic!  We have found many ways to support her.  The main one is TEAM KELLY.  It is a group of anyone who helps and thinks about Mrs. Stewart.  Some things TEAM KELLY have created are T-shrits, which I'm wearing today, and bracelets, which I also have on right now.  The other ting many people do to support her is shaving your head.

The reason we do that is because she has to go through chemotherapy and she has lost her hair.  We have shaved our heads to make her feel better about this experience.  She has been wearing wigs on her head because she does not want to look bald.  Her wigs fit her personality and she has gotten many compliments on them.  Se is still very beautiful in all of them.  She loves that we have shaved our heads in support of her and her 3 boys.  She would not let her daughter shave her head though.  There are over 100 kids throughout Wester and other schools who have joined in and supported Ms. Kelly.

My baseball team was in a "Strikes against Cancer" tournament in support of many different cancers.  We all wore our TEAM KELLY shirts and she was there to cheer us on to victory.

As I finish this speech, I hope you will think about and pray for Ms. Kelly, Will and their family.  She is a great woman who deserves the best.  If you have any questions about Ms. Kelly or you want to order a bracelet or shirt go online to www.kellybridge.blogspot.com.  Thank you.

thanks tripp.  your speech gives us strength and hope to face tomorrow :)

It was a great week of feeling so good! She was thrilled she got to be at field day and ball games all weekend.  So many blessings this week...too many to list...another blog post is in the works!  Wear your TEAM KELLY shirts tomorrow to show your support!

Please pray this:
1.  For her anxiety anticipating treatment.
2.  For her side effects to be minimal.
3.  For her counts to be UP, so she can actually get treatment tomorrow.
4.  Thank Him for a week full of blessings and feeling great.
5.  For TEAM KELLY loving and supporting her through cards, texts, visits, meals, hugs, facebook messages, etc!
6.   Pray we will be reminded that He is in control, and that timing it is up to Him, not us.
7.   For jason, will, ben, sam and ella...always.

No chemo again today.  Her counts are too low and it's too dangerous.  Her doctor and nurses assured us that this is very normal.  She just needs more time for her body to produce bone marrow and build itself back up.  The low numbers in her blood work mean the chemo is working.  Thank you for your support in wearing your shirts today...wash 'em and get 'em ready for next Monday.  The scan has also been moved back to May 29th.  Thank you for all the encourgaging texts and prayers today!

The care calendar on meals for the Stewart family has been extended through August.  Thank you all for making dinner time stress free for kelly and her family.  With four kids all in sports and jason being the head coach on one of those teams, kelly has been so grateful to put something other than a frozen dinner in her kids mouths.  Thank you all so very much...it has been an enormous help.

She feels so good and has such a great week and weekend. She shared with me some of her highlights from the week...
~She had lunch with her old teaching team...jennifer, angela and lori. But they were missing tamlyn who lives in Houston...and then she just happened to call that same day! These girls hold a special place in her heart and always will...lots of laughs and memories shared this week.
~Several visits from friends that live close, but that she doesn't see everyday. Just a quick hug and 5 minute conversation gave her so much warmth and encouragement.
~A friend recapping her day at the middle school. So many of the kids checking on kelly. Praying for her. Worrying about her. Supporting her and her family.
~TK shirts and wristbands bringing complete strangers together with the same prayer and expecting the same miracle.
~Another friend sharing how kelly has taught her not to go crazy over the small stuff and cherish her children...and not overlook life's moments...to enjoy each one.
~A family through Jason's work (people kelly has never met) sent a large cooler full of food...homemade brisket and TONS more

Today was a really good day...being a mom is the best...
Will was on the golf course shagging balls and selling them for TEAM KELLY. He brought her a wad of cash...$31 he and his friends raised today.

and here is ben's mothers day card

sam made her this tile at school

Back in December, kelly had a talk with jason. She wondered what she could do to serve Him more. She wondered what her purpose was in this life. As if being a mom to four kids, a wife and PTA volunteer of the decade wasn't enough...she just felt like He had something bigger for her. He had been tugging at her heart and preparing her for something huge. There is no doubt she didn't expect for Him to lay something this BIG in her lap. But here she is facing it all with enormous amounts of faith and hope. And what a witness it is to so many people! Several of you have told us about your Faith growing so much stronger since kelly's diagnosis...how you haven't ever prayed like you pray now. He is doing great things through her and she is so grateful for that.

From the kids version of Jesus Calling today~
-It has been one of those days when anything that could possibly go wrong, does go wrong. When it's been "one of those days", look for Me. Because when everything goes wrong, that is when I am working the hardest in your life. I take frustrations and turn them into opportunities to strengthen your Faith. I take disappointments and turn them into chances to draw closer to Me. I take troubles and turn them into opportunities to trust Me.

Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7

She is scheduled for chemo tomorrow so wear your TEAM KELLY shirts! If you haven't got your shirts yet, shoot me an email so we can figure out a way to get them delivered or picked up.

Prayer requests for the week:
1. Pray she stays hydrated and nourished this week.
2. Pray her counts are up so she can get treatment.
3. Pray for the side effects to be minimal and for the chemo to attack and shrink tumors.
4. Thank Him for TEAM KELLY- her prayer warriors and cheer-leaders
5. Thank Him for an amazing couple weeks of feeling good and spending time with friends and family
6. She has a CT scan scheduled for May 22nd...start praying for a clear scan now

team kelly at work...at school...at play...

from Jason ~

What a blessing to work for a company like Venture Mechanical!  For the past 17 years it’s seemed more like a family than an employer.  In the last few months everyone on the Venture team has gone out of their way to make sure I was able to take care of and be with Kelly and the kids through these trying times.  Not too many people have the comfort of knowing that their bosses and co-workers are literally down on their knees lifting you up in prayer.  Thanks to Venture for joining Team Kelly!

and here are a few more pics of TEAM KELLY from last week and weekend...

TEAM KELLY shirts are in!!  If you ordered on this last round (or the one before) we are organized...kinda... and ready to get them out of our possession :)  If you haven't already paid, you can do that here on the blog! Just click on the donate button (top right of your screen ).  Thank you all for your patience and mostly for your generosity in supporting kelly.  We keep hearing stories of TEAM KELLY wristbands and t-shirts bringing complete strangers together...6 degrees of kelly stewart...much more fun than kevin bacon ;)

She is feeling good and her spirits are up, but it's really hard not to worry.  Set backs are scary.  We struggle every day not to think of what tomorrow will bring.  We try to be happy and thankful for today, but honestly, we crave for everything to be as it was...before February 14, 2012.  Feeling this uncontrollable desire to turn back the clock I read today's devotion.  It gripped my heart and calmed me down.

-Do not long for the absence of problems in your life.  That is an unrealistic goal, since in this world you will have trouble.  You have an eternity of problem-free living reserved for you in heaven.  Rejoice in that inheritance, which no one can take away from you, but do not seek your heaven on earth.  Begin each day anticipating problems, asking Me to equip you for whatever difficulties you will encounter.  The best equipping is My living Presence, My hand that never lets go of yours.  Discuss everything with Me.  Take a lighthearted view of trouble, seeing it as a challenge that you and I together can handle.  Remember that I am on your side, and I have overcome the world.

No chemo again today ...

Platelets are back up but her white blood cell count is too low to receive the chemo treatment she is prescribed. It is too dangerous. She is a little nervous about waiting another week, but her nurses said its very normal and told to enjoy another week of feeling good...and to be a germ-a-phobe. Here is what our devotion said-- Don not fear what this day may bring. Concentrate on trusting me. Relax in my sovereignty, remember I go before you, as well as with you, into each day. Fear no evil, for I can bring good out of every situation you will ever encounter. Thanks for this sweet reminder Camey :)
